How to set up TesRev in your Tesla

Step by step: play an engine sound in your Tesla with TesRev, pair your phone, choose the engine and settings, and fix the common problems (no sound, phone not connecting).

What you need

  • A Tesla (Model 3, Model Y, Model S or Model X) with its web browser and an internet connection: Premium Connectivity, or your phone's hotspot (how).
  • A phone, optional but recommended: an iPhone (Safari) or an Android phone (Chrome, Samsung Internet or Firefox) with mobile data, and a rigid holder.

Nothing to install, no account. TesRev is free while it is being tested.

1. Open TesRev in the Tesla

Open the web browser on the Tesla screen and go to tesrev.com. The engine screen opens and the engine starts by itself. When the Tesla asks to use your location, allow it: without a phone, the engine follows the car's GPS speed.

The browser plays sound only after one tap on the screen. If the big engine button says Tap for sound, tap it.

2. Pair your phone (recommended)

The phone feels each acceleration as it happens, so the engine reacts sooner and follows small changes of the accelerator, even in tunnels where GPS is lost.

  1. Scan the square code on the Tesla screen with the phone's camera. You can also open tesrev.com on the phone and type the code shown on the Tesla screen.
  2. Tap Connect. When the phone asks to use motion and location, tap Allow. They are only used to follow your driving; GPS positions never leave the phone.
  3. Put the phone in a holder and leave the page open. The screen stays on by itself.

The pairing is remembered for 30 days: next time, the phone reconnects in one tap.

3. Choose the engine and the settings

Pick the engine with the arrows on the Tesla screen, or open the full list. You can listen to every engine on the engines page. In the settings:

  • My Tesla: pick your model and version. TesRev uses its mass, power and drag to turn accelerations into engine load.
  • Drive mode: Comfort shifts early, Normal shifts later the harder you accelerate, Sport holds every gear to the rev limiter.
  • Volume and speed unit (km/h or mph).

Parked, hold the Hold to rev the engine button to rev it.

Troubleshooting

No sound

Tap the Tesla screen once (the browser waits for a tap before playing sound), then check the car's volume. To check the sound itself, play the 20-second demo on the home page.

The phone does not connect

Check that the phone has mobile data and that the Tesla is online, then scan the code again. If the Tesla uses your phone's hotspot, keep the hotspot on.

"Motion access denied" on the phone

Reload the page on the phone and tap Allow when asked. In Chrome on Android, tap the icon left of the address, then Permissions, Motion sensors, Allow, and reload.

The engine does not follow the car

Keep the phone in a rigid holder, with the TesRev page open in the foreground. Without a phone, allow location on the Tesla: the engine then follows the GPS speed, a little later than your foot.

Hear it in your Tesla

Open tesrev.com in your Tesla's web browser: the engine screen opens and the engine starts by itself. Add your phone in a holder for a sharper response. Free while in testing, nothing to install, nothing connected to the car.
