Make your Tesla sound like an Ioniq 5 N
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N plays an engine sound and simulates gear shifts. A Tesla can get the sound part: a V8, V10, V12 or turbo engine that revs and shifts with your driving, free with TesRev. What is the same and what is not.
What the Ioniq 5 N does
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N made fake engine sounds respectable. Two features work together:
- N Active Sound+ plays a synthesized engine through the car's speakers, inside and outside, with several sound themes, one of them modelled on a turbocharged four-cylinder.
- N e-shift simulates the gear changes of a dual-clutch gearbox: the revs climb and drop at each shift, and the car briefly reduces the motors' torque so that you feel each shift as a jolt.
Drivers who have tried it often want the same in their Tesla. Tesla offers nothing like it, but the sound part can be added.
The same idea in a Tesla
TesRev is a web page that your Tesla's browser plays: an engine synthesized in real time, which follows your driving through a virtual automatic gearbox. Press the accelerator and the revs climb, the gearbox shifts up, floor it and it kicks down, lift off and the tuned engines crackle and pop. It reads the Tesla's speed from its GPS or, sharper, the accelerations measured by your phone in a holder.
Where the Ioniq 5 N has a handful of themes, TesRev has 17 engines: an American V8, an Italian V10, a V12, a rotary, a Formula 1 V10, a tuned turbo inline-6 with turbo whistle and blow-off valve, and futuristic sounds for those who prefer a spaceship to a petrol engine.

What is the same, and what is not
- Engine sound that follows the accelerator: yes, on both.
- Gear changes you hear: yes, on both. TesRev's gearbox shifts by itself, in Comfort, Normal or Sport (how it works).
- The jolt of each shift: no. The Ioniq 5 N cuts its motors' torque to create it. TesRev only plays sound and never acts on the car, so the drive stays as smooth as a normal Tesla.
- Paddles: no. TesRev has no manual mode; nothing to touch while driving.
- Sound outside the car: no. TesRev plays through the cabin speakers only.
- Price: the Ioniq 5 N's features come with the car; TesRev is free while in testing and works on the Tesla you already have, Model 3, Model Y, Model S or Model X.
Try it
Listen to every engine on the engines page, then open tesrev.com in your Tesla: the setup guide takes a minute. For the other ways to give a Tesla an engine sound, see fake engine sound for Tesla.
TesRev is an independent project, not affiliated with Tesla, Inc. or Hyundai. Ioniq, N Active Sound+ and N e-shift are Hyundai's names for its own features.
Hear it in your Tesla
Open tesrev.com in your Tesla's web browser: the engine screen opens and the engine starts by itself. Add your phone in a holder for a sharper response. Free while in testing, nothing to install, nothing connected to the car.
